2:22 - A Ghost Story cast interviews with actors Finn Wittrock, Constance Wu, Anna Camp, Adam Rothenberg.

Bunker Hill— Running now until December 4th at the Ahmanson Theatre, Center Theatre Group’s US premiere of the supernatural thriller “2:22— A Ghost Story” has quickly become LA’s most talked about theatrical experience.

Direct from a phenomenally successful run on London’s West End, “2:22” is a horror / thriller play that draws the viewer into a deep night of suspense and laughter as the age old question is posed: Do ghosts exist? And if so, why?

In this play, Jenny (Constance Wu) believes her new house is haunted because of strange happenings that take place in the middle of the night. However, her husband Sam (Finn Wittrock), is a man of science who adamantly believes these phenomenons can be logically explained.

Their dinner guests, old friend Lauren (Anna Camp) and her new boyfriend Ben (Adam Rothenberg), observe in disbelief as they count down to 2:22am… when the moment in question will reveal all.

“2:22” is written by author and journalist Danny Robbins, creator of the hit BBC podcast, “The Battersea Poltergeist”. From youth, Danny has developed a great love for the paranormal — specifically ghosts — and was launched into his fascination after hearing the account of a friend who said she had seen one.

“It struck me that a ghost sighting is a detective story, where both the witness and the ghost are suspects,” writes Danny in his theatrical statement. “It lays our relationship with the teller bare.”

His concept for “2:22” was born from these ponderings. As research for the play, Danny began interviewing people who were convinced they had seen ghosts. Ultimately, his conversations took on a life of their own and they soon became the material for his top-rated podcast.

For Finn Wittrock, who is making his Center Theatre Group debut , “2:22” marks a true homecoming for the actor. Having grown up in Los Angeles, Finn attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) and graduated across the Music Center plaza on the stage of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

“Since high school I’ve seen plays at the Taper and have sort of been like, someday I’ll get here,” he shares. “And to really be doing a play on this stage, with this group, really is like a bit of a dream come true.”

Constance Wu finds being on stage a welcome change after having spent most of her career in Television and Film. “I really got to base a lot of it on what Finn was giving me, or Anna, or Adam. And that is what I really love about acting and theatre. So, that was really fun for me,” she divulges.

In speaking with the rest of the cast, we learn that both Anna Camp and Adam Rothenberg heard about this project from their manager.

“He was so excited when this came in for me. I’ve never heard him like that,” Adam recalls. “He was like, ‘Oh oh oh, I can’t tell you anything about it, but you have to read it, it’s the best thing I’ve ever seen.’”

“Yes! …He did that for me too,” Anna contributes.

All four cast members unequivocally agree that the script, and its engaging storyline, is their primary draw.

“If the experience reading it is anything like the audience’s experience watching it… then I have to do it,” states Finn while Constance nods in agreement.

This spooky thriller has built a buzz reminiscent of a major motion picture release; which, is truly an exciting moment for the Downtown Los Angeles community. Overall, “2:22” has received a good reaction from theater goers across Southern California.

“2:22” is directed by Matthew Dunster and closes Sunday, December 4th.
